The Documentary

Sunk Town is a documentary that focuses on Hekou, a once-thriving ancient town in Jiangxi Province's Yanshan County, now fading into obscurity with the passage of time. The film follows two individuals struggling against the tide of time and oblivion. The main character, Ye Meng, returns to his hometown after years in the city, living in an old Qing dynasty post office. He obsessively collects and preserves forgotten relics and stories of the past. Is his dedication a way of resisting the town's inevitable decline, or is it a reflection of having no other choice? This documentary takes viewers on a journey into a town sinking beneath the weight of history, revealing forgotten stories and lingering memories, while questioning what remains when the past is left behind.
